Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions are medicines that your doctor has prescribed for you to take regularly.

  • Please allow 2-3 working days for your prescription request to be processed.
  • Non-repeat prescriptions (acute items) and prescription-related queries may take longer to process. A clinician may need to speak with you before your request can be issued.
  • We do not accept prescription requests by telephone.

Please make sure you request your medication in good time to avoid running out.

How to Order a Repeat Prescription

Please allow 2-3 working days for your prescription request to be processed.

The quickest and easiest way to order a repeat prescription is online.

NHS App

You can use the NHS App to order your repeat prescriptions and manage your medicines.

To request a repeat prescription:

  1. Open the NHS app
  2. Go to Home
  3. Select Prescriptions
  4. Select Request a repeat prescription
  5. Check your chosen pharmacy is correct and click continue, or if you would like to change your chosen pharmacy, select Change your chosen pharmacy
  6. Choose the medicine you need and follow the instructions

The NHS app lets you see the progress of your request. Your medicines may be shown as:

  • Waiting for GP approval
  • Approved by GP
  • Rejected by GP

Once your prescription has been approved, it will be sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy.

If a medicine has been rejected and you would like to know why, please contact the practice.

You can also order repeat prescriptions online using your SystmOnline account.

If you do not have an account, or have forgotten your username or password, please contact the practice.

In Person or by Post

You can request a repeat prescription by:

  • Bringing the right-hand side (tear-off slip) of your prescription to reception.
  • Posting your request to the practice.

By Telephone

We do not accept repeat prescriptions by telephone. This helps to reduce errors and keep patients safe.

Pharmacy Advice

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals who can offer advice and treatment for many common, minor illness and health concerns.

You can speak to a pharmacist about conditions such as:

  • Coughs
  • Colds
  • Sore throats
  • Tummy problems
  • Aches and pains

Pharmacists can also advise you about medicines that are available without a prescription and help you choose the right treatment.

Prescription Charges

Prescription charges apply in England, unless you are entitled to free NHS prescriptions.

You may be entitled to free prescriptions if you:

  • Are under 16
  • Are 16-18 and in full-time education
  • Are 60 or over
  • Receive certain benefits
  • Have a valid medical exemption certificate
